RC 2 Advertising: The Choice Is Yours
Advertising: The Choice Is Yours
From the moment you open your eyes in the morning, you can't escape adverts.
They are everywhere.
Let's look at how they work.
Repeated music on adverts
Beethoven once said that music could change the world, but I'm pretty sure he didn't mean the repeated music on adverts!
This music gets stuck in your head, because that is exactly what it is designed to do.
The advertisers hope that, when you're out shopping, you'll remember the music from their adverts and choose their products.
So the next time you are reaching for a product, stop and ask yourself if it's really the best choice.
We can only see and hear adverts, so how do advertisers make us think that something smells good?
They create unreal worlds on our TV screens.
For example, if they want to sell us washing powder, they show someone sleeping in a bed surrounded by a field of flowers.
This makes us think of sweet smells.
However, when you go to bed at night, you are not surrounded by flowers!
That's why you should make sure you don't just buy the product without smelling it first.
Adverts for everything from food and drink to digital goods tell us the facts about the product as well as the sellers' opinions.
As buyers, we are often easily influenced by the opinions of the sellers and other buyers rather than the facts.
The purpose of advertisements or 'adverts' is to sell products.
The sellers often make us believe their product is the best.
As buyers, we must ask ourselves if we really need this product or it is an impulse buy because of the advertising.
In the end, advertising companies are only doing their job.
Unfortunately, most of us get lost in a world of very clever adverts.
Next time before buying, take time to review the products' facts and be careful not to be tricked by the sellers' opinions.
