Look at the poem on the right. It has five lines of text. This style was created in the nineteeth century by an American poet. This kind of poem always talks about a single topic. Each line has a set number of words. The first line has one word. The second line has two words. The third, or middle line has three words. The fourth line has four words. He had only one axe, and he needed it to make his living. He sat down and began to cry. As he cried, a spirit appeared. She asked the man what was wrong. She listened to the woodcutter and felt sorry for him. But what could she do to help? Suddenly she came up with a great idea. A fairy tale is a story that often has characters like fairies, dwarfs, giants or mermaids. This fairy tale is adapted from The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde.
